Bag Press!

In recent times, the traditional plastic carrier bag has become a political scape-goat in our Industry, symbolising the National need to recycle and re-use.
Almost a year ago to date, Gordon Brown announced that he would force all supermarkets to charge for carrier bags, saying that they were “one of the most visible symbols of environmental waste”. But scientists, politicians and environmentalists attacked the Government for joining a ‘band wagon’ based on poor science.
For example… Did you know? Carrier bags are now made with an additive enabling them to be bio degradable and photo degradable in natural sunlight when put into land fill. Also did you know? 80% of recipients of a plastic bag will automatically re-use the bag for something else? Lastly, in comparison to recycled paper bags (whose production process makes them a much more expensive option for the eco-friendly user), did you know that standard carrier bags impose 1/7th of the transport, pollution & congestion effects that a recycled paper bag would impose on the environment? Which, when you think about it, is equivalent to seven less lorries on the road.
